Introduction
Vaca's Houston Narration
ALL of Vaca's Trails
Cabeza de Vaca visited Houston (circled on the map) longer than any other place in Texas. Caddoan Indians trading in Houston told Vaca of wonderful places to the north. They convinced him that wealthy tribes and a Northern Sea were located well north of there.
Both Coronado's Trail and DeSoto's Trail would lead to places due north of Houston; both would be dissapointed and reverse direction there. Spain would never return for another look. England and France would continue their search for a "northern passage" to China for the rest of the 16th Century.
